How to play Alistar
Read the full guide
Walk up into Q, then decide the Headbutt: Alistar gets much stronger when W is saved to punt the support out, knock the carry back, or peel the counter-engage instead of being auto-spent in W-Q
Start E before the knockup ends so Trample stacks through the body-block and chase; Alistar’s clean catches are one long control chain that finishes with the stun, not a single combo that lets the target walk away
Alistar is better than many engage supports once fights keep going, because after first contact he still has a second job—re-target, peel the first diver, or isolate someone with displacement—rather than becoming a spent engage body
In most messy fights, Headbutt the champion whose position changes the whole exchange, not automatically the carry. If their diver is one step from your ADC, that is usually the best target because one punt deletes their entry and buys time for your team to hit back. If the enemy support is the only peel protecting a fed backliner, knocking that support away can be just as valuable as tagging the carry directly. When you already reached the carry cleanly with Q, then Headbutt becomes the tool that either finishes the isolation or sends the counter-engage in the wrong direction.
Alistar charges his roar by stunning or displacing enemy champions or when nearby enemies die. When fully charged he heals himself all nearby allied champions.
Alistar smashes the ground, dealing damage to nearby enemies and tossing them into the air.
Alistar rams a target with his head, dealing damage and knocking the target back.
Alistar tramples nearby enemy units, ignoring unit collision and gaining stacks if he damages an enemy champion. At full stacks Alistar's next basic attack against an enemy champion deals additional magic damage and stuns them.
Alistar lets out a wild roar, removing all crowd control effects on himself, and reducing incoming physical and magical damage for the duration.
