How to play Vel'Koz

SupportSupportMake Q ask two questions: fire it for the split angle off minions, walls, and retreat lines so the first missile forces the dodge and the recast punishes where they turn
Treat E as the spell that says "you crossed too far"—drop it where the engage ends or on your own feet after Q slow or allied CC, then laser once the target is already stacked or researched instead of starting with raw E
Vel'Koz support is at his best in the 20-30 minute fights where teams have to round corners and retreat on fixed lines, so he can live with an even lane, but falling past roughly 500 gold down early cuts off the scripted movement checks that make the pick work
Start the channel once the target has already lost a movement option. The cleanest casts happen after your Q slow lands, after E pops them up, or when an ally has already rooted or stunned them long enough that they cannot simply sidestep and break the whole sequence. In messy fights, it is often better to laser the diver or bruiser who just crossed your screen than to hold it for a perfect carry angle that never appears. If you open with R from neutral, people still have too many answers. If you cast it after the turn, the beam usually becomes the part they cannot fix anymore.
Vel'Koz's abilities apply Organic Deconstruction to enemies on hit. If 3 stacks are accumulated, the enemy will take a burst of true damage.
Vel'Koz shoots a bolt of plasma that splits in two on reactivation or upon hitting an enemy. The bolt slows and damages on hit.
Vel'Koz opens a rift to the void that deals an initial burst of damage, then explodes for a second burst of damage after a delay.
Vel'Koz causes an area to explode, knocking up enemies, and knocking close enemies slightly away.
Vel'Koz unleashes a channelled beam that follows the cursor for 2.5 seconds that deals magic damage. Organic Deconstruction Researches enemy champions causing them to take true damage instead.
