Build lane contact around Q3 and W, not just the dash in: if Q3 makes them give ground and W clips the champion plus something else, the shield often buys the extra step or auto that makes Yone’s trade actually stick
A lot of fake Yone trades start when you E in before the charm, stun, or disengage spell has been spoken for; the snapback is strongest when E is answering a specific button, not just announcing that you want to fight
Yone’s better games usually open after one mid-lane punish buys a shoved side wave and a hidden Q3, then R is used as the door through the peel line or onto the champion guarding the carry instead of being saved only for a perfect backline clip
Ult once the fight gives you a line that changes access, not only when it offers a perfect carry highlight. If their carry is still fully guarded, look for the peel champion, the support, or the frontliner holding the space you need to cross; hitting that target can open the rest of the fight for your autos and Q cycle. In lane and small skirmishes, the same rule applies: use R after you have already forced a bad step, burned mobility, or made them respect Q3, so the cast finishes a problem instead of starting a guess. If the ult lands and you still have room to keep hitting, it was probably a good one.
